Regarding the origin and development history of the guitar, it can be roughly divided into the following eight stages:
(1)The ancient ancestor of the guitar should be the Hittite guitar from 1400 BC, which was found on the site of the ancient Hittite city gate by archaeologists. This is the oldest musical instrument that resembles a modern guitar.
(2)The word guitarra first appeared in Spain in the 13th century. At that time, Moore guitars and Latin guitars appeared. The word Guitarra gradually evolved from Persia. Among them, the oval body of the Moore guitar has a protruding back and uses metal strings. The playing style is rough. The body of a Latin guitar is similar to that of a modern guitar, with a figure eight-shaped flat bottom structure, with gut strings and an elegant style.
(3)The first heyday in the history of guitar development was the period of cultural renaissance. The peak appearance of the four-pair chord guitar indicates that the guitar has entered its heyday.
(4)The golden age in the history of guitar development appeared in the late 18th century. The appearance of the six-string guitar marked the arrival of the first golden age of guitar development. Around 1800, the brand-new six-string single-string guitar quickly became popular with Europeans due to its clear harmony and easy tuning.
(5)The appearance of Sor, known as "Guitar Beethoven" , marked the peak of the six-string guitar development. At the beginning of the nineteenth century, the most famous classical guitar masters active in the classical guitar music centers of Paris, Vienna, and London at that time were Sor, Aguado, Giuliani, Caruri, and Carcassi. Among them, Sor and Giuliani are not only masters of classical guitar, but also outstanding musicians. They used their basic talents for the six-string classical guitar to create the first batch of large-scale repertoires, including concertos, which laid the foundation for the development of the six-string classical guitar. Especially worth mentioning is Sor. He inherited Haydn and Mozart’s classical music tradition in creation. In addition to writing opera and dance music, he also composed a large number of excellent works including systematic etudes and tutorials for classical guitar.
(6)In the middle of the 19th century, due to the emergence of a group of famous piano and violin players, the guitar gradually entered the first low ebb in history. Under the tremendous influence of the development of piano, orchestral and opera music, the guitar gradually lost its former glory in the middle of the 19th century, and its performance and creation were at a low ebb. This situation continued until the end of the nineteenth century before it was restored.
(7)The successful creation of Terega’s Grand Horta, marked the renewed renaissance of the classical guitar. The vitality of the classical guitar's resurgence at the end of the nineteenth century was gained in Spain. The vigorous development of the guitar in the twentieth century and its unprecedented brilliance are largely due to Terega , the father of modern guitars. Terega has conducted in-depth research and innovation on guitars in terms of production, performance, performance techniques, and repertoire. Terega and his teacher Alkas have been committed to working with guitar maker Torres, and finally produced a modern classical guitar with an enlarged body, increased volume, and significantly improved performance.
(8)The powerful vitality of the classical guitar in the twentieth century was gradually pushed to a climax by the great guitar master Segovia with his nearly seventy years of performance and exploration. With his extraordinary talent, firm belief and unremitting efforts, Segovia finally got rid of the fate of becoming a folk instrument in pubs and cafes, and made the charm of classical guitar as a concert solo instrument by the music industry and Recognized by the world. The guitar finally overcomes various prejudices and becomes an elegant instrument that is widely loved by people like the piano and the violin.
